Strictly Democracy takes place on November 18<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a02014 from 10.20 to 12:30 at\u00a0at Rotary Club of London, 6\u00a0York Gate\u00a0London\u00a0NW1\u00a04QG. There is no entry fee and lunch is provided. All welcome.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of this year\u2019s Houses of Parliament\u2019s Parliament week, the British Federation of Women Graduates is holding the competition, to celebrate the achievements of five inspirational women who have brought about social change through democracy. The winner will be awarded the title &#8220;Woman of Democracy 2014&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Strictly Democracy will showcase projects that focus on:\u00a0\u00a0gender imbalance in sport and STEM subjects; the use of technology to support young and vulnerable mothers;\u00a0how to achieve a sharing economy and developing a cure for Norovirus and engaging with public health.<\/p>\n<p>The event will provide women with a platform for their projects and encourage others to follow in their footsteps.\u00a0Parliament Week seeks to inspire people across the UK to get involved in democratic life.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Contestants include:<\/strong> Alison Baum, CEO of charity Best Beginnings; Benita\u00a0Matofska, Head of the Global Sharing Economy initiative; Dr Ellie Cosgrave, Co-founder of Science-Grrl; Dr Lucy Thorne, Centenary award holder for research on the norovirus; Lottie Birdsall-Strong, Graduate student at Cambridge carrying out research into gender equality in Sports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Judging the projects<\/strong> will be the first woman CEO of the Worker\u2019s Educational Association Ruth Spellman OBE, National Council of Woman President Gwenda Nicholas, the future President of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland Eve Conway, and the current and former Presidents of the BFWG, Dr Gloria Banner and Jennifer Morley.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The chair is Gwen Rhys who is founder and CEO of Women in the City<\/strong> &#8211; an organisation which promotes, recognises and rewards female talent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Event partners include:<\/strong> the HoP Parliament Week,\u00a0Workers&#8217; Educational Association, Best Beginnings, People Who Share, Women in the City, Rotary Great Britain and Ireland,\u00a0Science Grrl, and The National Council of Women Great Britain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 SAVE THE DATE: Strictly Democracy take places on November 18<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a02014 from \u00a010.20 to 12:30 at\u00a0at Rotary Club of\u00a0\u00a0 London, 6\u00a0York Gate\u00a0London\u00a0NW1\u00a04QG.
