BFWG is delighted that 3 members were elected to leadership positions in our linked international organisation, Graduate Women International (GWI).
From 11-13 November 2022 GWI held virtually its 34 triennial General Assembly and Conference cohosted by Indian Federation of University Women’s Association’s (IFUWA). Over 300 GWI members from 40 GWI national federation and association countries registered for the event!
Members had the opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues from around the world in the Conversation Café.
The General Assembly voting delegates elected new GWI 2023-2025 Board of Officers and Committee members, adopted 10 new policy resolutions, and IFUWA shared a beautiful cultural experience video. Participants heard from several 2022 GWI fellowship awardees and two of the GWI Teachers for Rural Futures students.
On the third day of the event, the from Growth to Sustainability Conferenceoffered 14 workshops and 11 seminars on various topics in line with the theme and five subthemes of the 34th triennial General Assembly and Conference.
GWI offers its warmest thank you to members who participated in the event, send appreciation to the outgoing 2019-2022 Board of Officers and Committees, and congratulations to all newly elected 2023-2025 Board of Officers and Committee members!

Patrice Wellesley-Cole
President of GWI for the 2022-25 Triennium
Newly elected GWI President Patrice Wellesley-Cole is BFWG’s Immediate past President and was Vice - President of GWI, then IFUW, the International Federation of University Women, from 1989-1992. A barrister and retired tribunal judge, she is an alumna and Honorary Fellow of her alma mater St. Hugh’s college, Oxford.
Patrice has been overwhelmed by messages of congratulations. She thanks everyone for their kind wishes and to BFWG‘s President, Jasmit Phull, CIR Jenny Morley, the Management Team, Executive Committee and BFWG family for their unwavering support.

Aisha Alshawaf
Convenor of the Projects Development Committee.
Aisha Alshawaf is the elected candidate for the GWI Project Development Committee Convenor role. This is a leadership role for one of GWI’s important groups, which oversees the implementation of GWI aims through its outreach work.
The Committee assists in the development and implementation of viable, sustainable community development, capacity building (e.g. membership or leadership training) and income-generating projects. Aisha is also a Vice-President of University Women Europe (UWE) and a BFWG Governor on our linked charity Funds for Women Graduates (FfWG).
Aisha is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, specialising in hospital oral surgery as well as being a partner in a dental practice.
