REPORTING
SEPTEMBER SOCIAL EVENING.
26 members, old and new, attended the first meeting of the year in a very successful evening of introductions and conversation. Geraldine Deas talked about her role as BFWG VP, Membership, and what our national organisation has to offer.
Aisha Alshawaf as BFWG VP, International Co-Ordination, explained CAWG’s and BFWG’s part in University Women of Europe and Graduate Women International. Both emphasised the opportunities there are within CAWG and in friendships worldwide. There was time to mingle and make connections with members. Thank you, Lis Hirlemann for providing refreshments.
INTERNATIONAL AND LOCAL TWINNING INITIATIVE
Aisha Alshawf as BFWG VP with International responsibility has included this in her report to the University Women of Europe Conference in Bucharest this month. ‘My recent involvement at both international and local levels has included the development of an online twinning initiative between local groups. I was approached by the Nepean Club, part of the Canadian Federation, to begin a dialogue between members of the Canterbury and Nepean group.
Although this initiative is still in its early stages, we have already taken some encouraging steps towards building future links. A simultaneous survey among members showed that our aims, outlook, and vision are closely aligned. This shared understanding has given us a useful foundation for planning online meetings to strengthen the initiative. These meetings will help members get to know one another, exchange ideas, and explore opportunities for future collaboration.
Looking ahead, I hope that by next year I will be able to share a clearer roadmap with members, setting out how this partnership can develop and contribute to stronger international connections.’
Watch this space for the development of this initiative and how Canterbury members can become involved.
